Pictures of the Hotel Beck in Reutte Austria
Two rooms and I get the TV. I'm happy. I found this place in Rick Steves' book for Germany. It right across the border from Fuessen. It's very nice and we have a ground floor room. That is perfect for Mr & Mrs Dullum as there is no elevator. Reutte is low key compared to Fuessen in Germany. Right now we can't see much of the mountains because of the mist. I joked with Mr & Mrs Dullum that it reminded me of North Bend. :)
Our First Meal in Austria
This was what Mrs D had. It was kind of a Tirolean hash. She wasn't crazy about it.
Mr D had pork in a nice sauce with spaetzle. They are little dumplings. It was quite nice and I appreciated the white pepper in the sauce. That is a cooked tomato with its stem in the middle of it all.
My dish was the Tirolean version of Mac and cheese. The spaetzle stood in for the macaroni. It had fried onions on top. I don't usually like meals without meat but it was really good. The service was good and the menus came in English for Mr & Mrs Dullum.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber
On the way to the mountains, we stopped at Crailsheim. Mr Dullum had to take prisoners there as part of his duties. After that we went to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It's a well preserved city that wasn't damaged too much during WWII. We parked at one end of the city and walked to the other.
It does have a wall running aroud the city. We could see lots of tourists making the trek along the top.
Here is a particularly scenic spot in the city. Very close to here we stopped for coffee and cake. We took Mrs Dullum along the sidewalks which are smooth compared to the streets.
Here is the Rathaus. We stopped at the Tourist information next to here and I got a number for a taxi. When we got to the opposite side of the town, I called and 15 minutes later we were at the car. It was well worth the cost. Mr and Mrs Dullum thought it was more touristy than the other places but it is a world famous city.
